Social Enterprise

We believe:

  • Entrepreneurs and values-based leaders can change the world.
  • Social responsibility is a 21st century business imperative.
  • Innovative cross-sector partnerships can sweeten the pie for all and have  long-term social impact.
  • Innovative business models can help social sector organizations achieve long-term sustainability.
  • We must lead by example.
  • That someday, the words social enterprise will go away, because it will be the way that all work is done.

The Values-based Leadership SPEECH™Framework. The SPEECH™ framework gives people a framework within which to better understand how to grow a socially responsible, entrepreneurial organization. The framework gives a template for leaders to use to evaluate organizational behaviors and impacts. Balancing and aligning these factors with internal and external values is essential to become a values-based enterprise. Check back here soon for my paper on SPEECHTM

Social Enterprise in Action (SEIA)

In 2003, while at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government pursuing my Masters in Public Administration, I founded (see case study).  SEIA is the largest student club at KSG, now in it’s fourth year, and 900 people strong. SEIA’s success is based on three important factors:

  1. Growing interest in socially responsible leadership
  2. A shared vision and mission
  3. Succession planning and leader development

SEIA looks to cultivate, inspire and mobilize socially responsible leaders through:

  • Creating awareness of and building interest in responsible enterprise and leadership
  • Providing training in skills needed to lead in socially responsible ventures
  • Being socially responsible in our work, our community and our world

In early 2004, SEIA created a study proving that there was a demand for SE curriculum  the school. Our efforts lead, in part, to a $2m grant from the Catherine B. Reynold’s Foundation and the establishment of the Reynold’s Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship at The Center for Public Leadership at The Kennedy School. KSG. Click here to read the report.
